Question Oil cooler on 3.4 L V6

I am just curios. Can any one tell me how oil cooler works on 4Runner? According to manual it exists. But it is not like a little radiator and oil goes through it. It is something different. Any one?

It's the shape of two stacked tuna cans. Inside there is an oil line and a coolant line. It "cools" the oil by heat exchange between the coolant and oil. So when the engine is cold it's an oil warmer, because the coolant warms up fast and when it's hot it's a cooler.

Would it benefit us to have the oil even cooler, by adding an additional aftermarket oil cooler, because I've heard of this being?done?

One reason that aftermarket oil coolers are installed is because an engine is running hotter than stock and it's an attempt to help lower the oil temp. Often times an oil thermostat is installed additionally so that oil isn't cooled until it reaches a certain temp.

This is the only reason I could see installing another one on our engine. If you cool the oil too much than water and gas vapor won't burn off, which would be bad for the engine.
