Off roading adventures

Well, I took the 4Runner down a couple of trails today. I've only had the truck about two months now, and this was the first chance I had. So me, my dad, my 6 year old son, and my 4 year old niece piled in the truck and headed out to Rockapolco. After about 5 minutes, I got hopelessly stuck in the mud while, oddly enough, trying to avoid getting stuck in the mud.
When I finally figured out that I wasn't going anywhere, the truck wouldn't spin the wheels at all any more. In all gears, H2, H4, and L4, it wouldn't even budge. When I put it in gear, you couldn't tell I had shifted. I finally had to call a tow truck. Luckily my next door neighbor is good friends with a guy with a flat bed who towed me home for $25.00. Not a bad deal, considering.
After I got it home, the truck was able to be moved again, so obviously the transmission overheated while trying to get it out of the mud. I'm thinking I probably need to change out the front pump and add a tranny cooler. I'll probably go ahead check out all the clutches, etc. while I have the transmission out, as well. Anything else I might want to do while I'm in there?

Get yourself a winch, or try not to go alone again. A buddy with a cable or rope could have gotten you out without calling for a tow truck.

Oh, I left that part out. My neighbor got me out of the mud (with his Ford pickup - how embarrasing ) But then the truck still wouldn't move under its own power, so that's when we had to call the tow truck. But this will definitely be justification for a winch when it comes time to put on a newer and better front bumper.
