OEM Shock/Spring life

I tried searching this topic but could only find countless threads on comparisons between different brands of aftermarket shocks and springs, which is nice, but first I'd like to address the condition of my stock suspension. I have about 130k on my 2002, and not a single part of the suspension has been replaced since I bought the car new. How many miles or years can you really expect out of a stock suspension? I'd like to lift my 4Runner, but would like to when my OEM parts have bit the bullet so I can replace all shocks/springs at once. I have driven my car pretty hard since I got it, but it's hard to really judge the lifespan of the OEM parts since none of them have broken or anything like that. If I hit a speed bump at more than 5MPH my rear suspension makes a nasty clunk noise, but I check the bump stops and they really don't look too worn out, however I can feel the extra roll in turns compared to when it was new, but how can I justify how much roll is really to be expected from this truck? Thanks for any input.

It really depends and there isn't a specified mileage when your OEM suspension is considered worn out. It's all how you've driven it and what kind of terrain it goes through. 100k miles on pavement is not equal to 100k miles on dirt/off-road. Check for leaks on the shocks. When your shock is blown, you can definitely notice it after you hit a slight bump.

That said, at 130k, I'd say you're due for a change. Change out the shocks/coils and also the bushings (poly). You'll be good for another 130k.

From my experience stock shocks usually last about 30-60k miles. At 130k mi yours are most certainly worn. If you want a lift, why wait? The clunking noise could be the rear suspension bottoming out or maybe your spare tire bouncing around.
