Thanks a lot. I ended up just cinching em down a bit, and torqueing the nuts to 36 ft lbs. It's all together now and running great. I'll have to load a pic of my busted manifold later.

Very very common. In fact, I have found that its not a "will it happen" issue, its a WHEN will it happen issue.

Mine lacked about 1 1/4 inch before becoming two pieces with only 148K on the truck.

Sorry for bumping an old thread and asking a question that might have been asked before. But I think it might help others in the same situation as myself.

I have a 98 4Runner with the 3RZ. I am looking to do the OEM mini-header install as a precaution. I have found a manifold off a 2003 Tacoma with a 2.4L motor. I am pretty sure that the manifolds are interchangeable between the 2RZ and 3RZ. I was hoping that one of the experts can kindly confirm if this is in fact true. Should I be concerned with the flange size (3.75" vs the 4.25")?

Thank you very much.

Manifolds have different part numbers according to Toyota. Not really sure why.

I think the part numbers are different because the heat shield mounting bolt locations are different on the cast iron vs tubular manifolds. Both manifolds use the same gasket to mount to the block so there shouldn’t be any problems in that aspect. I mostly have doubts over the downpipe flange - the part numbers for that particular gasket are different. Its taken me 2 months of rigorous hunting to get a great deal on the manifold locally so hopefully I won't have to pass up on it.

I replaced mine with LCE headers when I bought it. It had a giant crack. I ripped it in two just for giggles with my bare hands (have the video, if anyones interested ill put it on youtube).

I finished my mini header install several weeks ago. The old manifold was in pretty bad shape. Someone had tried to weld it.

I used 1300 degree stove pipe spray paint to cover the mini header.

I had been getting a P0420 code every so often before the swap. Its been about a thousand miles since then and haven't seen the MIL yet. I have read that exhaust leaks can cause that code so I don't know if it was the crack or a leak at one of the gaskets. Hopefully it won't be back.

I checked prices at several of the online toyota parts retailers. I asked my local dealer if they could beat their price with shipping and they said they would so I bought it locally instead of online. Plus, it was at the dealership the next day rather than waiting several days.

Thanks for everyones help posting part numbers.

Little update on mine--

Its still awesome, no leaks or anything bad yet.

The paint still looks perfect which is amazing to me because all other exhaust paint i have ever use looks like crap after a month.

DC's kit looks very complete and I wish it was avialable when I did mine would have been a lot easier.

Still no heat sheild and no melted wires

I have put close to 20,000 miles on the mini with no issues

Please pm me if you have any questions I would be more then happy to answer them for you.
