The ODO did that on my wife's '96, at around 175K miles. She used to reset the trip ODO on each fill-up. Eventually the trip reset button got a little flaky and sort of disabled the trip and main ODO for a couple of hundred miles. Tried fidgeting with it a little, eventually it started working again on its own, and she just doesn't touch that trip reset any more.

I know that's not really any help, since nothing was 'fixed'. I'm assuming something just gets sticky inside, and the reset mechanism doesn't spring back properly.

96 at 257 and mine are still turning however check eBay and part yards gauge clusters aren't usually that expensive just try the match the mileage up.

on my 98, I take it down a dirt road, hit a wash board or bump. Then I have RPM's and no speed. Stop, turn off truck and start again. Boom it works. Wierdest thing ever. Whats up with that?

Bad speed sensor? Speed sensor hitting ring in rear? Bad connection?

I don't have the front abs sensors (also speed unless you don't have abs, then it's on the transfer case) and mine does the same thing on certain bumps, though I only have to slow down to around 10 or 20mph or so for it to kick back on.

Hey Yotie,

Did you ever get this sorted out? I had the same issue where I hit the trip reset and it made the odometer stop working. I took the dash apart yesterday but could not find any broken components. It looks like it should all be engaged with the drive motor.

Thanks

IT: did you check out my pics on post 1854 of my build thread as mentioned above? The break on mine was not obvious...at first I thought it was fine....pic#2 was the best picture I could get of it.

Ya, I pulled mine apart and couldn't see any breaks. The reset button/swing mechanism seemed to be working fine. I couldn't see anywhere where it may be jammed.

Do you know where to apply power to see if it will spin on the bench?
