Angry NWOR 1.5" Coils, Ranchos, Lift (sorta) & Torsion Arms

OK, here goes. I am looking for some advice on the following. I purchased & installed NWOR 1.5 " progressive coils all around and a set of Rancho 5000s.

Per NWOR, I took out my rear isolator cones and made sure that my front coils were installed on the proper side.

Problem: My rear sits too high when compared to my front. I mean, a slight rake would be nice, but I am as- high big time!

I called NWOR and got the run around at first about the problems being caused by my installation. So, I started calling back and talking to different people and starting getting a myriad of answers like "your front coils don't give the 1'5" advertised lift because the coils were really designed for a Tacoma," or "Well, since you have an automatic and 4x4, its heavier than the others and you won't get 1'5" lift," and the latest "Well, we recommend Bilstein shocks and you froint sits low because the Rancho coil ring sits lower on the shock body than it does on the Bilstein."

SOLUTIONS? Other than just trashing the whole set-up, I need about 1" max up front to make it look right and was thinking about:

-.75" - 1" front spacer

-Crank up torsion bars

Any thoughts besides coil-overs & trashing the current set-up? Also, if the torsion bar is an option, can anybody explain how it is done and what the downside might be?

Thx

What year 4R do you have?

Another victim of NWOR.....

Either should work. Try cranking the t-bar first, hopefully you'll get enough out of that. It would be a pain to tear down the frony assy. to install a spacer.

Welcome newbie!

Sorry, its a 1998 SR5 4x4. I got it off Ebay for a friggen STEAL. In fact, it was a repo and it came with the scoop hood - apperently the guy who had it before had put it on - looks great. I guess I got it becuase people don't like the color - called Anthracite (olive brown). In fact, the deal was so good that I sold my 91 4runner that I had moded out (OME set-up, deck plate, 31" M/Ts, custom rear bumper with jack & jerry can holder, jacobs ignition, jardin muff, etc.).

Yes, I agree, another vicitm of the NWOR hype & run-around.

Ohh, ok then, in that case I don't think you have t-bars to crank. At least I don't on my '98.

Your new rig sounds nice, got any pics?

Thx for responding. I just went out and chaecked, and you are right, no T-bars. I have not had the rig that long and just sorta assumed it had them.

Got any pics of your 98 rig. Maybe I couold learn something.

Thx,
grasshopper

Yeah, you don't have torsion bars. The only thing you can do is put a spacer in the front coils, but how much are you lifted from stock and how do your cv angles look? If you go too high, you'll start spraying cv grease everywhere and kill them.

How did you do a deckplate mod to a 91? Was it a V6 or the 4cyl?

RE: 91 deck-plate. Unfortuantely, I did not do it myself so i can not speak to the ins & outs of how it was done. I got it done in 1999 when I was stationed at FT Wainwright, AK (in Fairbanks). Basically, a guy who worked in a performce shop (1 of 2 in town) knew how to eek every bit of horsepower & MPG out of snowplows, tundra trucks, snowmachines, etc so he did it. Funny thing, it used a cork plug instead of the more recent deckplate screw top. Still worked as best I could tell (growled good with the jardin muff.). Wish I better mech. skills or info.

Without new front springs you'll have serious rake as the NWOR rears give about 3" of lift over stock, not 1.5" like advertised. The front springs don't give as much lift on a 4Runner as advertised either. They might give 1.5" of lift on a Taco, however.

See this thread for my ordeal with NWOR.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, Matt.

Something to consider is that if you add spacers to progressive-rate springs, the ride will be pretty harsh. You may want to look over in the "for-sale" section for items likethis , a used set of front coils...This what many of us here have, and I've been really happy with mine. I have pics of my '98 in my Webshots album , if you are interested...
