I've got the mounts coming for my backup lights. I was laying in bed last night thinking about how to wire them. Ultimately, I think I want them to come on automatically with the reverse lights, but I also want to be able to turn them on independantly of the reverse lights. So, I was thinking... couldn't I create a circuit that has 2 paths... one path wired into the reverse lights and the other path to a dash-mounted switch? That way, the circuit would be completed if the switch was turned on, if the reverse lights were on, or both.

Here's a quick diagram... would it work? I'd like to avoid having to find a non-factory 3way switch.

I have that on my project list also. It has been there for some time now and I am too busy to complete the project. I have all the stuff set to go, just need the time to wire it all up. Here is a diagram of what I am planning to do. Hope it helps some.

IPF backup light works like the way you described. It can be on by turning on the switch, or with the reverse light, or can be turned off. Here is the link to their installation direction and hope that will give you some idea to wire it.

Interesting post. So this begs the question...Does Toyota have a 3-way switch for a set-up like IPFs?

I'm going to put some extra lights on my bumper when I make it and I would love the options of ON, OFF, and ON with REVERSE.

Cole Hersee is the manufacturer of many Toyota switches. Toyota itself does not offer a three way switch that I know of. The Cole part number above has a factory look to it.
