Is this normal?

I have a 96 4Runner. Everything is stock. When I first start the engine the rpms seem abnormally high and loud.

When first started the rpms are at 1500. After 2-3min drop to 1350. After 4-5 min drop to 1150. 6-7min 1050.

All of that is when I'm in park. As soon as I put it into drive rpms drop to 750.

Outside air temps are in the 50-60's when started. At night the temps are in the 30-40's.

I just changed the oil thinking it may help, but didn't. I put in Castrol high mileage 5-30 as I have 205kmi

Does this all sound normal for a 4Runner? I've only had mine a few months, and is like it to run as good as possible.

Thanks,
-Cap.

Great. About how long do you think is good for a warm up? Sometimes I just get in and go, others I wait a few minutes. Think it even matters?

Yeah I still have that white pre runner. I was gonna keep it, then I was gonna sell it, then fix it up. Now I'm back to selling it again. It's been hard to let go of. It's really close to my dream truck, but I just don't have the time to really get her fixed up. Especially with the family 4Runner. So I'm selling her for $2500, shame to do so, but hopefully she'll go to someone that can really enjoy her.

I let mine warm up for 5 minutes every time. Rain or shine . Hot or cold. Some people jump in and go soon as they turn the key. I dont like that. I want my fluids to get some temp first.

It makes me feel better...I dont know if it really matters. But I was always told to let them warm up and dont hammer on it at all tillits up to temp.

Yeah, I think that's a good idea. It sure wouldn't hurt to wait 5 min to let her warm up before heading out.

Just drive gently until the temp gauge starts going up. Not much of a difference between idling and driving gently.
