Normal?

So I recently made the switch to synthetic oil. Before the switch I was getting about 17.9mpg to the gallon, and now I'm getting about 22.2mpg, on the 3.4. Is this normal? I haven't changed my driving habits, just the normal to and from work.

How many miles did you have before you switched?

averaged about 17.9 before the switch. I've only gone through one tank since the switch, maybe it was a fluke, who knows. I sure hope not though.

I have a vw gti, and i switched to synthetic and i progressively have gotten better mpg. I went from 28-29 to a solid reliable 32-33mpg. I am getting a 97 4runner this Friday and one of the things i plan on is running synthetic oil.

its cheaper than regular oil..

$25 for the mobile 1 15k at walmart vs. $10-14 for 5.5 quarts of reg oil. change it once a year or every 6 months...still cheaper than dino!

I was getting about 18 even. Then a ew oil changes with the mobil 1 15k stuff I am getting 22-23 every tank. That is with 33's! I still change my oil at about 4,000 miles though. I dont trust the deposits that eat away at the crank bearings and piston rings.

look at the weather as far as temp goes too for better gas mileage.... seriously... i too run mobile 1 syn .. my truck gets awesome gas mileage when the temps outside are above 45-50 degrees.. below that it goes down.. now thats its in the 70's during the day i get roughly 21 mpg where as when it was cooler i was getting 18-19 mpg... i dont think the syn helped that much
