Noisey Power Steering Pump
Hello,
So my daughters 97 Tacoma 4x4 has a very loud power steering pump. It makes the noise all of the time, not just turning. Also, I have listened with a mechanics stethoscope and its coming from the P.S. pump and definitely not a belt. It still steers fine and does not leak. The fluid does not look dirty or burnt. Its full as it should be. Is this a common Tacoma problem? It seems I have noticed this problem a lot on forums. Also, what can I do about it? Can I drain it and try new fluid? If so, where do I drain it and what fluid should I use? How about rebuild kits? I also read about a guy draining the reservoir, driving it a few days to circulate it and draining it a few more times to totally change all the fluid in hoses etc. Is there an easier process? I do not even know where to drain it from or if I need to bleed out air etc.

this seems to be the better method however I do suggest pulling out the fluid in the reservoir and filling with new then starting this process and adding more as you go!
