Newbie seeking advice....
I'm pretty new here, at least to posting. I've read lots and lots, but only 1 post and that was a question. Anyways, here's what I have - 2001 4Runner SR5 Sport w/ TRD S/C, TRD Exhaust, elbow removal mod, Amsoil Air Filter, ADDCO Swaybars in the front and rear, TRD Rims/Wheels, partial custom stereo installation, indiglo gauges, piaa bulbs (fog lights), toyota bug guard and weathertech rain guards. I have some questions about the mods I've read about on these forums.
1. W/ the removal of the elbow, is it beneficial to do the Deckplate mod or the Intake Silencer Removal mod or both?
2. I keep reading about the plenum removal mod, what is that and what are the benfits?
If I can think of more questions, I'll post them, but that's all I can come up w/ for now.

Welcome to the forum
Here is a thread that will help you on your question regarding the intake silencer mod. If you have an S/C, you do not need to perform the intake silencer mod since it will not give you any benefit (the thread discusses this).
Here is the link to the other thread to answer your question regarding the elbow vs deckplate.
Hope this helps. The search function on this forum rocks!!

dukestr posted as I was searching, copying & pasting for you! That's 45 seconds of my life I'll never get back.
Anyhow, as he's answered your question in the exact same way I intended to, I'll just say "Welcome to the forum".

thanx for the quick replies. i've been reading so much, i think my mind is in overload at this point.
one other question - i've read a few forums about the Free FMU or TRD mod (https://www.yotatech.com/forums/show...&threadid=4772). i've even went to Gadget's website and read his findings. that's where i got lost though. maybe i was reading it wrong, but from what i gathered from Gadget's website; it sounded like he recommends the Free FMU. however, the posts that i had read, he spoke highly of the TRD FMU. any ideas?
thanks again,
Brian

Re: Newbie seeking advice....
Hey! Welcome to the forum!
The plenum is what sits on the top of your engine. It usually has some sort of badge on it (ie "V6", "EFI", "Toyota", or something of the sort). The intake is run through the throttle body which is mounted on the driver's side of the plenum (at least it is on my 2nd gen). The other end of plenum is then angled straight down and is bolted to the intake manifold. Basically, the plenum is just a way for the air to get distributed from the throttle body to the 6 channels in the manifold (V6).
With your runner having an S/C, I don't think you have a plenum, and, I don't think you have an intake minifold either. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong on that.
I've never heard of a plenum removal mod. I don't see how a mod like that would work unless you made a costum plenum or something of the sort. A few of us here have had to remove it for repairs such as PCV valve and Knock sensor replacement though.
Well, have fun.
