Avoid a reground cam. Go for a cam ground from a billet core.
Depends on your needs as to which cam you should get. Do you want low-end, mid-range, or high-end power?

Yes, try and avoid regrinds. Good Point, <96>.
And to elaborate a bit, a "street preformer" cam will _usually_ build more HP from mid range and up through the top end. An "RV" type cam will build higher torque at low RPM. These are just generalization, but it may give you a reference point on what to look for. If you use your 4Runner for offroading, camping, hauling gear around, etc, I would suggest you get an RV-type grind. Actually, I saw a site quite a while back...O.K. look Here, , scroll down the list and there are a few cams on the page. I like the looks of the RVI and RVII grinds. I've never baught anything from these guys, so I can't offer anything about the company, but they look like they know their 22r engines...Hope this helps. BTW, welcome to the forum, Jay Man!

I use the truck mainly for work/school, meaning it sees a lot of the daily roads and highways. It's great on the roads becuase of the gas mileage; but it's the highways where there is a real noticable loss of power since I chucked larger tires on the truck. Therefore, i guess i would be looking for a cam that would increase the mid to high range performance.
Thanks for the replies guys |
