Angry Newbie could use a little help

What are some things I can do to get more horsepower out of my 2.7L 4Runner that won't cost me a ton of money? Someone had told me an exhaust would get me a few extra HP. I already changed my fluids to royal purple and did the RP fuel system cleaner.

Someone else said to change the stock filter with a cold air intake. Would that do me any good? Another person said switching to those splitfire spark plugs would even help a little... in other words, I really have no idea what I can do and can really use some help...but please keep in mind, I don't want to spend over say $500 total if possible.

Thanks in advance.

for less than 500 i wouldnt bother.....the intake will give you better throttle response, but hp gain....nominal at best(unnoticable). If you want the real hp u haveto get the supercharger.....or nos.

id say spend 50 andget a good air filterwhich i thinkmakes the truck feel 5 hp stronger.

jus my 2 cents

Well if you do intake you have to do exhaust to be able to get any noticable diffrence. Yes they both do increase hp but not as well as when their combined. Honestly what i've done is during winter months I disconnect my a/c and i run a electric fan. Less pull on the motor and frees up already available HP. I have a 2.7 tacoma with 35s and have no problem pulling them with stock 3.57 gears. These are my hp mods. Electric fan, disconnect the a/c compressor, cold air intake and flowmaster 40 series exhaust. I figure maybe 15-20 hp with the exhaust and intake combined and maybe 10-15 hp with the electric fan and disconnected air compressor. Beleive me...the fan and compressor do make a huge diffrence... think about the extra stuff your motor doesn't have to turn now...all your using now is just the alternator.
