Newbee Q: coil rears on a 1st gen?

This may be a well-trodden path - while I was researching the various mods for rear disc brakes, I started to wonder if anybody knows of a kit or a mod to substitute the rear leaf springs on a 1st gen 4runner SR-5 for a coil spring set like the later gens.
Thanks!
Cheers
Chris

Yikes, sounds like it would be easier said than done. You would have to cut the buckets and control arms off a 2nd gen and somehow weld them on, probably using the axle from the same truck as well. Better stick with leaf

I've been thinking this same thing myself lately. If time and budget were not an issue (we all wish!!) here's what I would do. The SAS conversion is nice but a huge step backward. There are more kits = more springs, more shocks, more control arms, etc available for the Jeep TJ than any offroad (alleged) vehicle in history - it would seem a natural to come up with a kit for the Toyota that installs the mounts for TJ long-arm kit arms and coils. Then you have all those spring rates and spring lengths and shock options to play with, and the modified TJ with longarm suspension is just about the best suspension that ever existed, fully tuneable for your habits etc, plus it's got good road manners too! Just a thought... errr daydream....

(When someone asks about your suspension, just say it's a total custom Rubicon Express (etc) system, avoid the stigma of even mentioning the dreaded J-word...)
