The new Toyota FJ Cruiser might make me trade my 4Runner in...

The new one just might make me drool enough...

http://toyota.com/vehicles/future/fj_cruiser/index.html

The Cruiser’s power is supplied by a 4.0-liter V-6 engine, generating 245 horsepower and 282 lb-ft. of torque. It’s available in two- and four-wheel drive with an optional six-speed manual transmission for the 4x4 models. All front and rear seats fold completely flat with no gaps and a durable floor covering, creating ample cargo space and enough room for two people in their sleeping bags.

It even comes with a locking diff.

I'd like to see one with steel front and rear bumpers, 3" of lift and 33" or 35" tires.

Also it needs to lose that huge rear taillight that sticks out like a giant tumor.

I got to look over one and sit in it etc at Takeover and I think it is to the FJ what the 05 Taco is the older Tacos, but worse. It is large, wide, low, and covered in plastic. The wheels are so tight in the wells that god only knows what would happen if it had to articulate a little. One thing I don't know is, is it IFS? I agree that it is way to "space-age" but I am sure that will change when it heads for production.

There was a looooooooonnnnnnnnnnnng thread about this, went on for a year.
It's a 4Runner chassis.
It comes with 33s. (285s)
We still haven't seen the production interior. Toyota has been conspicuously silent about this vehicle since the Auto Show.
It's supposed to be in showrooms in the Spring of '06.
Pricing is heavily rumored to be low enough to take sales away from the TJ - smart money says it won't be even close.

Found this - rendering of the proposed production interior. It's a long way from the concept...

Me too. That thing was a piece of trash. The Toyota reps didn't seem too psyched to hear the comments from about 60 guys who hated it. I realize it was only a concept model, and not what will come out when it makes it to production, but I wouldn't buy one as a daily driver, let alone as a off road rig.

I noticed that, too.

But the thing is that I like all the other new stuff: the '05 Taco, the '03 and newer 4Runner, even the hybrid Highlander. I'll admit that the FJ Cruiser looks cool in pictures, and maybe it was just 'cause we saw a concept model and not a production model, but in real life that thing sucked.
