So the 05 Hilux going to be based on the 05 Tacoma? I know as of 04 the Hilux is still using the 86-95 Toyota platform.

im under the impression that it goes hilux surf breeds new hilux & new runner which breed new taco.

but thats all speculation. wont know till all are released.

i agree though that the base model 4th gen runners with the big plastic moldings are too much for me.

Looks really big. They are still trying to find footing in the American full sized market although that market will dwindle if gas stays as high as it is now.

The whole front bumper cover is 'plastic.' I agree about toyotas newer designs being too soft & rounded, just plain frumpy.

I think it is plastic. Toyota's (camry, corolla, highlander) have plastic bumper covers, but the paint on the plastic matches the body. I don't think they'd be able to mold the foglight holes into metal that efficiently either.

you know what was a cool looking truck .. that new bronco that Ford developed .. looks like the old school ones, but with some future styling to it. But it retains the boxy shape, not all these rounded curves

That's because Ford is desperate and lazy - taking the retro-look route with the T-bird (failed), new Mustang, Ford GT, concept Bronco, what else....?

Painted plastic front fascia is kinda hard to miss;I'm sure there will be a fancier model Tacoma with the plastic molding on it.

On the new Runners the unpainted plastic moldings do look cheap but for the off roader the bare plastic might be a good thing but I prefer the color keyed molding.
Even with my Bushwacker flares I had to paint them (Corey's look nice) since I didn't want to be a carbon copy of 90% of 4Runners out there with the OEM plastic unpainted flares.

Back to the Tacoma: I gotta see better pics since that angle it makes the nose look kinda funny plus that looks like a base model 2wd.

It could be Olefin plastic with the color impregnated like 4th Gens and FJ-100's. If so, it's a much more durable finish than painted plastic. I think they went that way for low speed impact crashworthiness, reduced repair costs, better aerodynamics, lower weight and better fuel economy. Not to mention a bold new look.

Does the photo URL mean that site (and maybe photos) originate from Turkey? They could be the first vehicles off the new Turkey production facility, one of Toyota's largest new investments.

Ok so what would you call the FJ concept that Toyota was showing at the 03 North American international autoshow, (which my friend that I worked with at Toyota Tech center happened to be working on eairly concept drawings of around '99-00)? I'd say its right along the same lines as the bronco concept, but the bronco was even more of a bare bones off road machine & turbo diesel powered. You might have a different perspective if you saw the vehicles in person.
