New mod- Test pipe

I know I'm going to take some heat for this but, I made a test pipe today to replace the cat. After putting the headers and exhaust on the other day the runner felt a little better but, it didn't impress me that much. So today for $8 I made a 2 1/4" test pipe. I also installed the O2 simulator I was talking about the other week. Well for the little extra exhaust note (hard to hear over the supercharger). The runner feels alot stronger and no check engine light yet. This is a must have for all you S/C people.

I take it there is no emissions test in Florida? Here they even have monitors on the sides of the freeways to catch polluters as they drive by. You get your ticket in the mail - how nice.

No testing here. I'm going to replace the test pipe with a 2 1/4 Borla muffler when I get it. That will keep the noise down. Even though it not that bad now.

what brand of 02 sim du you use? A lot of poeple have been searching for the right one and no one have found the one one that duplicates the pattern of the stock post cat sensor.

This is very interesting since I'll be installing a test pipe soon after I get my headers. Removing the cat must make a big difference especially with the s/c. My boost shows 8 # right now and I'm pretty sure I'll show around 7 with this combo. That will translate to a lot more TQ and HP. But wouldn't do it if I was atmospheric.

To start with, 2 1/4" @ the header collector is quite small for an engine like the s/c'ed taco.

Well the crossover on the headers 2 1/4" and I was in a hurry so I just picked up a piece of pipe from Discount Auto (they were out of 2 1/2". cut the old flanges off the cat and weld them on. You can get the O2 sim. through us (Titanmotorsports.com) and I can email you the wiring diagram. All in all it feels alot better than with the cat.

I think you chose the right size. Using 2.5" right after 2.25 would probably slow the exhaust flow since they will expand, lose heat thus becoming heavier. Like you said, the header itself is only 2.25 at the end.

Thanks for the info. Figuring out the right wires should'nt be hard. I did my s-afc install myself using the wiring diagrams from the yota service manual.

is that really true that there are sensors on the road to give you a ticket for emission in texas, that sounds crazy

The sensors aren't built into the road. Sometimes you'll see a trailor set up on the side of the road with a bunch of cones, etc. around it. Looks like a road construction crew taking a break but the giveaway is this huge camera looking lens pointed at the road. There is a camera attached to it that snaps a pic of the license plate to send the ticket.

I like downshifting the diesel trucks from work and smoking those guys out as I go by. Usually they are set up on an on ramp so if people want to merge they have no choice but to hit the gas pedal until its too late and they see the crew out there. I think they only ticket cars that are registered in the 4 counties in Texas that have an emissions check.

if i am thinking of what you are doing, you basically put a down pipe on your truck...is that correct?? if so, emmisions here would make it impossible to pass without a cat...my friend has one on his 95 supra tt and it's loud as hell..the only way he gets it to pass emmsions is cause he knows a guy that works there...or you could put the cat back on for emmisions and then take it off...but that's too much hassle for me for an extra few ponies and the pollutants that come from your car....any pics of the downpipe or "test pipe" ??? good luck!

A down pipe. Is basically a test pipe. Down pipe is a term used on turbo cars. On turbo cars it's the pipe that bolts on to the turbo and then the exhaust. A test pipe just replaces the cat. There are also down pipes that don't replace the first cat (like one of the HKS models for the MKIV Supra). Hope this helps.

If I remember correctly, you were going to dyno your test pipe.
