Just want to say hi,

moving here from the bimmer.org forum, I got a 03 4Runner less than 2 months ago to replace my '97 528iA

always wanted a Toyota truck and this one rocks....

(already approaching the 5K miles oil change and the smile is still on my face)

Cheers

Welcome to the forum LC lite!!!

Your yotatech handle LC lite, is that stands for Land Cruiser lite? That is a good initial. Oh yeah, hope you are rich so you can buy some medication for a disease called "mod fever". Looks like you are already been bitten since you are beginning to talk to get a bull bar for your front bumper.

Again Welcome newbie!!

Don't forget to post some pics.

4x4CPOSEADOG,

very well done.....

LC Lite = Land Cruiser Lite

though it is really appropriate with this truck

No mod fever, not rich either, but I am thinking seriously about a bull bar or something for the front, somehow it feels very plasticy and flimsy.

Cheers

Hey if you are really serious about a bull bar or something for the front to get rid of that plasticy or flimsiness, then have you think or do you know anything about the ARB or TJM bull bar? Now, I don't know if ARB or TJM have bull bars available for this 4th gen runner, but one of the member here named Mike can help you with that. His YT handle is xtremeoffroad, maybe you can send him a PM to get some info.

I am serious about it, but I am also waiting for JAOS, ARB etc to finalize their offerings, not in a panic.

Still trying to come up with what fluids to use for engine oil etc...

LC,

Go ahead do some break-in run first, then when you get to about 1k miles, change the oil to get rid of all the wear metals, then switch to Amsoil Synthetic oil and original Toyota filter that is made in Japan. When I bought my new Runner back in '94, I drove the runner on the freeway at 55 MPH and constantly check the speedo to make sure I don't past that limit. After I put about 1K on miles, I changed the oil to Amsoil synthetic, since then I use nothing but Amsoil synthetic 10w30 oil and OEM Toy filter. Now I have about 90K miles and the rig runs like I just bought it from the dealer yesterday. Oh man, I love it.

Well,

break in procedure was followed to the dot, although my manual does not state any speed limit.

First 2K miles were mostly highway miles at varying speeds, with the trans in the 4 position for city driving, so I don't lug the engine.

Changed oil with dino at about 2 and 3K miles, used the Lexus filter the second time around.

Thinking to swich to M1 0W-40 at 5K miles.

Thanks for the suggestions

Cheers

I'm doing the same thing on the new Taco. Just turned 1500 miles. Manual recommends 5k oil changes. I'm going to do the 1st change at 2k with dino as you did then start on synthetic at the 5k change. Still researching brand, weight, etc.

The only 2 break in recommendations in my manual were to avoid full throttle and running at a constant RPM for 1st 1k mi.

Enjoy your new ride.

Welcome aboard LC

Good to hear that you got the new 4runner. The new 4runner is very offroad capable!! well except for the fact that it hovers inches off the ground but it still can hang with the other stock 4runners (older gens).

First off before you get a steel bumper, I'd say work on suspension:

Daystar Suspension: Spacers available summer
Revtek Suspension: Spacers available soon
OME: coil/shock (available maybe by september?)
Downey: coil/shock (available maybe by september?)
SAW: coilover (available maybe late summer?)
King: coilover (available maybe late summer?)

Good news on the ARB/OME products is that the prado available worldwide (except for the US) is now the same spec as the 03 4runners. So since ARB/OME pushes alot of products to their prado line, we should be seeing parts of us now that fits! Expect parts rolling in hopefully before the 04's roll out. This means suspension and bumpers!!

Once ya lift your 4runner, you can add some new booogers!
