Replacing carpet

I have replaced the carpet in my 87. It wasnt that difficult. You just have take youre time and make sure you buy a quality carpet. You will probably have to make a couple small cuts around the shifter area to make it fit properly, but other than that it is easy.

The carpet I bought had padding on it. So I didnt use anything.
I may be pulling it back out here soon to install some sound proofing material, but thats my personal preference.

If you buy carpet to drop right in, I bookmarked these two sites several years ago.

I would suggest using the precut stuff it saves alot of head ache. If you use auto carpet off a roll you'l have to cut it and also form it to the bumps and curves with heat to make it look nice other wise it tends to wrinkle.
For under it use house hold carpet pad works great as a sound proof and soft also, you could probably pick some scraps up form a carpet installer for free.

Never use house hold carpet.

Here is where I ordered my carpet from. I only ordered the front carpet set, since the rear wasnt really worn out.carpet
You can also order the rubber set instead of the carpet. I was fortunate enough to get the rear set from a guy online.

I have the carpet in front and the rubber in the cargo area. The rubber is nice and thick and its padded! As far as weather resistance, I think the rubber woud be better, but since it is padded, the padding will also mildew the same as carpet.
I really like the rubber matt in the back, I have hauled around some stuff that either spilled (and left a nasty stain)or would have cut the carpet up. It was definately worth it

This is the cheapest one I could find, not sure about the quality or if it includes both passenger areas or just one...
