New Brembo rotors & PF Pads...WOW!!

So, I realize this is a thread that has already been discussed but I thought Id share a little something.

Thru the use of reading this forum I determined that the shaking Ive been feeling has to be due to warped rotors. Also, from what Ive read, I decided to order some Brembo (slotted and dimpled) rotors and buy some '96 LandCrusier Performance Friction pads from Autozone (read Gadgets write up on this one!). After calling around and getting quotes for installing them I was shocked to find out that just about every place in town was quoting approx $250 - $300 JUST TO CHANGE THE FRONT BRAKES!!! They all told me that the 4Runner has "special hubs" that require you to repack bearings. I kept telling them that mine was a 2000 4Runner with sealed/auto-locking hubs. After the 4th quote I said screw it, went to the garage, pulled out my handy torque wrench and decided to tackle the job myself. WOW, talk about SIMPLE! The whole job took less than an hour and you guys were right, it was extremely easy! After taking off the wheels, sliding out the pads, removing 3 bolts on the calipers, the new rotors slid right on...thats it!

After seating the pads, the truck now stops on a dime and doesnt shake any more when slowing down from highway speeds.

Thanks guys you made my day! Now if I didnt back into my pressure washer and dent my tailgate Id be extremely happy tonight...instead Im just mildly happy knowing that even with a little dent, it now stops like it should!

BTW, the Brembo rotors cost $170 and pads just over $30...which has been the best $200 Ive spent on my truck in a LONG time! Oh yeah, I also did the trick where you put the truck in reverse and pull up on the e-brake to adjust the rears...that also has greatly improved the stopping ability of my vehicle.

...next week Im going to tackle the URD Fuel Kit!!!

Thanks for everything guys (and gals)!

I have the PF pads sitting too. I just gotta order the Brembo's. I've been too lazy to order them :pat: That's it. You talked me into it. Tomorrow I'm ordering the rotors and throwing those babies on this weekend.

I have 140K on my 2000 and it still has the original brakes. It shakes and bounces, but it still stops fine for me. I wouldn't spend $200 after only 45K, but it depends on what kind of braking you do. I'll probably change mine in about 30K.

Wow...have they at least been resurfaced? I've had my rotors resurfaced and my pads replaced twice since I got it 12,000 miles ago. And I'm replacing everything...rotors, pads, and drums next week.

The reason Phisherman's brakes have lasted so long is because he, like me, keep our foot on the far right pedal.

Because the people you are having do it have no idea what they are doing...i.e. they don't know the toyota's specific equipment...they are going by a generalized judgement.

Glad to know the Brembo's worked out so well...I just dropped $175 on mine and I"m waiting for them to arrive this week to install. I went with Hawk pads though, anything has to be better than my current autozone rotors and whatever pads sears (replaced at sears on last owner...not under my ownership!!) puts on!

That's the standard line when they see a 4wd vehicle, and most people fall for it. There's no reason a front brake job on most 4wd vehicles should cost any more than on a 2wd.
