new to the boards, looking at getting a 90-95 4runner

In the western washington area, I currently have an 02 WRX thats killing me insurance wise.

I found a sweet rig nearby:

Hes asking 7k with 98k on it.

Description:
1990 Toyota 4Runner 94K SR5 4x4 V6 3.0 EFI 5sp. A/C,P/B,P/S,P/W,P/L AM FM CD sunroof a fullyloaded suv. With a 4" procomp suspension lift and 33" procomp tires with chrome wheels. Grille guard with mounted KC's and nerf bars on the sides. I have taken very good care of it and kept the miles low. Don't want to part with it but I am moving and it needs to go.

What color is that? Does anyone have any recommendations on where I can find pics of it in different light? looks alot like my WRX in that pic.

Ive got a billion questions, ill use the search tool first and see if I can get any answers.

Take it easy!

Alex

You found the right place, welcome to Yotatech and Merry Christmas!

Can't help you with that specific color, not a lot of them around here. The price isn't too bad considering the mileage/mods. I've got 170K on my 1994.

This thing will drive A LOT differently than your WRX, have you driven any 2nd generation 4Runners?

Let us know if you buy it, best of luck!

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND WELCOME ABOARD!

Definately a nice find man, I've got a '95 and paid 7800 for it with 125,XXX miles on it and no mods other than brand new BFG A/T's.

I would go for it, however, be aware that with all of those mods and such you will be starving for power and it will be a rude awakening going from a WRX to this 3.slow. But that is a very nice rig, I would see if you could test drive it, then run a Carfax and see if you can get some service records on it to make sure it was properly maintained and then rock and roll with that thing man!

Right after I bought my '91 4runner I was seeing how fast it would go I got to a little over 100 coming out of the mountains and the reason I slowed down... a WRX goin slow in front of me. Just a random story. Thats a good lookin truck and is definatly something to start with. I paid toooo much for mine with the same miles and no mods from the stealership. Test drive it because going from a WRX to a 3.slow will suck. You may want to check out a '96 and up 4runner the insurance is only a little more and the speed is like the difference between night and day! Good luck let us know what you do. Merry Christmas.

Nice looking rig, have the lift inspected to make sure it was done correctly and check to make sure the timing belt has been changed should have been done at 60k and call a dealer with the VIN no. and see if the head gasket has been replaced. And try to talk him down at least 1k. Good luck.

Alex,

That color is Bright Blue Metallic! You won't see that many 4Runners wearing this paint but I love it. If you want some more pics, I can email you some of my truck b/c my '92 is the same color.

Man, I was hoping Santa was going to bring me a ProComp 4" lift but I guess it was too heavy for his sleigh

The 5 speed came stock with 4:56 gears. Check to see if the truck was re-geared to at least 4:88s. If not it will be REALLY SLOW!

Well I went from driving my modded 250hp WRX for about a year, to driving my girlfriends 2 wheel drive, 94 4-cyl 118hp S10 for a week, and it just kinda hit me that I wanted to own a truck for awhile (mostly because of reduced cost, and because I spend alot of time out in the sticks hunting, hiking, and shooting)

It would be a good way to get back into 4x4ing, ive never owned an offroad vehicle but done a good deal of it with my friends over the last 5 years or so. The power loss would be WELL worth the 600 less a month id be owing just to get around.

Id be really interested in seeing some more pics of that color, I cant find any anywhere!

Thanks alot guys for all the feedback and information!

Alex

Buy mine! Nearly same year, same color, more mods, bigger, badder, and in Wa. State aswell. Close to the same price maybe. Not 100% set on selling but to the right guy for the right price maybe. Ben

Shocking enough the automatic that it is handles very well with the thirtyfives. I can only imagine what 5.29s would do if and or when I get them. 5SPD is understandable! I think that Runner is "Bluer" that mine is. Thats makes me jealous!

Hey Doink, looks like you have basically the same setup as this rig, how do you like it? Are you regeared at all? Hows it handle on/offroad?

Thanks again

I recommend to pick up the 96~99 3Gen 4Runner...More power and can add more power later ( SuperCharger, If you wish can have a twin turbo...It may overkill but show you can be done) there are alot of gears you can put them on.

i sent you a pm back. hopefully that might help out a bit. also, im not regeared. its not too terribly bad, its just rare for me to get into 5th gear on the highway. if its flat, then yes. if its hills, i gotta keep it in 4th. otherwise, no complaints

I didn't know you had a 5 speed. Are you geared for the 225s or the 31s? Also, how many rpms are you turning when you are traveling in 4th gear?

I wish I had a 5 speed.
