In need of your expertise on my tranny and suspension lift

I've got a couple of issues that I'm hoping you guys can help me out with. I have a 91 with the V6 and 165K on it. It runs really well, but the tranny it starting to go. I lost third gear for a while, and now it's back but I can't get into it without grinding so I just skip it. (I replaced the clutch last year so I know it's not that) I'm wanting to pull the tranny myself and have it rebuilt and was wondering if anyone else has done it themselves and what they learned to/not to do. Also- my runner is starting to sag in the butt and I'm wanting to stiffen her up with some new rear coils and wanted to get your feedback on downey vs. old man emu, etc. Will a minor suspension lift give me enough room to put 32X11.5's on it? Thanks!
