Need some advice...

Here is what I want to do in the coming month:
Replace spark plugs and wires.
Change my oil.
Change the fluids in the differentials, tranny, and transfer case.

Vehicle: 1989 4Runner 165,000 miles. Wires are original, plugs are around 40k miles, god knows when the fluids in the diffs, tran, and transfer case were changed last.

Spark Plugs (based on what I read on this forum):
I've decided to go with NGK. However, I am not sure what type of NGK to get. For instance, on autotoyotaworld.com, they have NGK F1000-37018 listed for $3.11 apiece. Pep boys has them for $1.59 apiece #2087. Anyone know the difference? Or is there a specific type I should get ?

Plug Wires: NGK as well. Pretty much standard.... anything to watch out for?

Oil: Gonna put amsoil in, according to what I have read here. However, after talking to my local 4x4 shop, he thought that a full synthetic oil is more prone to leaking. He recommended a blend. If a blend is the way I want to go, what type of amsoil is recommended.

Differentials: Local 4x4 store uses Redline - Heavy Shock Proof.

Tranny: Local 4x4 store uses Redline - MT90.

Transfer Case: Local 4x4 store uses Redline - High Temp.

They use whatever I bring, so if I obtain all amsoil products, then thats what they will use. They like amsoil, but carry and use redline.

Last question: What is a good website to buy plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, redline/amsoil products all from?

Thanks in advance,
Rob

I don't know where you are located, but the best place to buy the wires and plugs is from the dealers, just call several to find who has the best prices. How long do you think you'll have your truck? The reason I ask is that if you're not going to keep it forever it's probably not worth switching to synthetic, otherwise go for it. The whole leaking thing on old vehicles is from when synthetics first came out, that problem has been fixed.

But if you want to use a blend the XL7500 series is a blend and a little cheaper. If you end up going with the Amsoil make sure you sign up to be a prefered member to save money, it's only $10 a year and pays for itself.

Those Redline fluids are excellent. I'd just go with them if that's what your shop uses anyway. Is your shifting a little notchy? Grind a little? If so then the Redline MT90 is better than the Amsoil anyway - it's made to help the synchros work better. The Amsoil can make your sychros work worse as it can be just plain too slippery! See this link for more info - these guys are Subaru tuners but they talk in general terms about the Redline and Amsoil fluids and reccomend both, but for different reasons/applications:

I was thinking about the shockproof for my diffs as well. Maybe Amsoil Series 2000, can't decide. My synchros in my tranny are definitely too warn for the Amsoil.

Never heard of the Redline Hi-Temp. Can't find it on their site (www.redlineoil.com) either. I was thinking either Amsoil 2000 or ShockProof for the transfer case.

You can buy Amsoil directly from the manufacturer at www.amsoil.com. Redline is available in a variety of places.
