Optima if you got the bucks. Interstate if you don't.

Umm, optima is licensed(??) by interstate. My optima has an interstate sticker on the top.

BTW.... What did you expect from (N)Everstart? I don't buy
(N)EverReady either!

I believe that AutoZone can order them if they do not have them in stock.

I too am in the market for a new battery...I am looking for something that could power some off-road lights and my stereo for awhile. I am also planning on upgrading my current stereo with a 1000W amp and either two 12" subs or one 15"...just something that would allow me to have good cranking power and that could power my stereo, lights, driving/fog lights for a good while.

Sorry to steal the thread, but like I said I would hit up AutoZone...what other big name auto parts store is near you? PepBoys has them too I believe.

Hope that helps,

Fink

WELP.....

AUTOZONE by me doesn't have them.

I did some searching/calling....and so far I'm getting them quoted to me at $79.95.

Ouch, a bit more than I wanted to spend....that being said...I plan on keepin this car until the wheels fall off or the grim reaper takes her home....so, I guess I splurg!

is that about right, price wise??

thanks,

aaron

That's about right for an Interstate. I went with an Optima, but an Interstate would be my second choice.

The optima red top ran me $104 at Autozone.

Are the Red Tops good for longlasting power? I would also like some good cranking power as mentioned before, my MAIN concern is having enough power to run the lights and stereo for a long time while camping or just waiting in my car. Red Top the way to go???

Thanks guys!

Fink

$79.95 sounds right for an Interstate

I think a red top would be sufficient. Besides, if you killed it you have a 3 year no questions asked return policy.

The yellow top is a deeper cycle batter with more CCA. So, if the red didnt cut it you could go yellow.

I am happy with mine.

I had a Red Top Optima last for 8 years in my car.....I replaced it with a Yellow Top Optima. The added benefit is that the Optima batteries do not leak or give off fumes. I chose it for my car because the battery goes in the trunk and I didn't want it leaking/fuming things up. Next battery for the Runner will be a Optima. I went with a Yellow Top instead of the Red because I had heard that if you discharged the Red (until dead) it would ruin it. The Yellow Top, being deep cycle, is designed to be charged & discharged and can handle a dead situation if it occurs.

Whatever you do don't get a Checker/Schucks battery. Was checking my fluids today and noticed that acid had leaked from the crappy sealing caps and ate the paint off my inner fender. Doh. Well black spraypaint isn't a match but close enough when you are trying to prevent rust. Optima for me next time. :pat:

What is the price difference between a Red Top and Yellow Top Optima? Would they both fit in the stock location on my '95?

Thanks guys,

Fink

Another good source for Interstate batteries might be a marine or boat dealership. They were the only batteries we used.

I think the price difference is $50 between the red and yellow.

It should fit in the stock location, with some slight modifying. At least on my 3rd gen it did. In fact, I am still not satisfied with how it is mounted in there. It just looks funny.

I would size it up and make sure the cables and everything will reach before you go blow a C-note on a battery like I did.

i threw a 40 dollar battery in my truck from sams club. it has a 3 year free replacement warranty, and another 6 years prorated after that.

they just switched to a new champion nascar battery, which has a 2 year free replacement, and another 5 year prorated, which still isnt too bad.

cant beat the price or the warranty.

oh ya, the first one i bought was a dud after 4 months. had it replaced instantly

they sell optimas at costco, atleast at the one by me. but if you call in and ask for a price, they will say that they dont sell them! "we only sell kirkland"

i kno ive seen them before at costco, so i called and asked, they said no. i asked, r u SURE, i coulda sworn i saw them there. NOPE!

so i went there to go look at other stuff, and sure enuf right on the edge of the aisle where the batteries are, are a RED TOP and BLUE TOP. the red top is for $99 and the blue for like $140 or something like that. all i remember is that the blues are hella cheaper than everywhere else!

I don't mean to hijack the thread but...

I bought a Yellow Top this summer, only to find out the sucker was dead. Absolutely zero volts on the voltmeter. I took it back and got a refund. Then I had a friend tell me that all Optimas had to be trickle charged after they're bought. Is that true?

Again, sorry for hijacking the thread. I'll delete the post if you want.
