I know many of you will dissagree on this swap, this is the first v6 I have owned and I havent been happy with it from the start. Its not the horsepower issue I dislike, I just personally like the 4cyl motor. I have owned many of them and IMHO are a perfect motor for fuel milage, and with the proper gearing, enough power for whatever you want. Anyway I cant seem to find any info on this swap, plenty of info on the 4 to 6 but not vice versa, anyway if anyone has done this swap or if you know of any sites with info please let me know. Thanks

Sure wish I had bought the 93 4cyl I was looking at before I got my 93 with the six, oh well you learn from your mistakes lol. :cry:

i dont know about swapping it, but if you want one bad mutha 22re engine, go with one from LC engineering. they are damn nice, but a heck of alot of money, well worth it though.

it shouldnt be a problem... i would go to an engine shop and see what they say.

they can probally make a pattern to bolt it right in....

talk to NWOR too they might have some advice

You'll need an engine (obviously), engine harness, CPU, transmission and transfer case. Unfortunately the drivetrain is completely different with the 4 and 6 cyl engines. You will also have to grind your current engine mounts off and install the 4 cyl versions. This is going to be a very big project but I'm sure it will be worth it if you really want the 4cyl.

Be forewarned that the 4Runner is a very heavy vehicle and there is a reason why the factory built so very few of them with a 4 cyl. Why not spend some money on porting and polishing the heads and putting some cams in there that iwll make more torque? You'll have more usable power and you won't have to do a thing to the rest of the driveline.

If you really want a more efficient engine that gets better economy maybe a 3.4 swap? Will be an almost straight forward bolt in and will make more power and have better economy.

But why not try this:
3.0 L turbo, 4cyl diesel. By everything I've found so far, it should bolt right into a 2nd gen. With your gearing for 31" tires, you could probably go to 32" or 33" and the ratios would probably work out pretty well.

Costa Rica is the closest country I could find that imports Toyota diesels, although there is one member from Aus. here....somwhere.

Unless, of course, you're from California.

Actually the diesel trucks came with 3.90 gearing so 4.10 or 4.30 may be more correct. 4.10 would be good with 33's and 4.30 might be better. The diesels get close to 30 MPG on the highway and have way more torque at lower RPMs. I didn't want to mention this swap since I don't know of anyone who has successfully done it although it is the one that really makes me drool.

You and I may have to do this one. Just depends on whose 3.0 V6 dies first. I guess I better start saving since mine has more miles.

In about a year I think I'll have the cash to buy one of thse used engines. Getting the complete engine with the ECU and harness will be the trick and we'll have to probably fab some engine mounts. Other than that its pretty much bolt together.
