*Help* Need help with roof rack...

Hey all, my friend just got done makin me a roof rack in his welding class and I have some questions about mounting it... here is of a pic of what it kind of looks like... not this exact one...

1) Is it ok just to mount it directly to the top like that... just right into the topper? (screws maybe)
2) What are those things called that lots of racks mount into... the two rails it mounts into... whats that called... and anyone know where I could get some cheap ones because that might be the best way to mount it... picture down below
3) Got any pics of how you mounted a homemade rack?
4) How would you mount it?

Thanks guys

Ian

Get some Thule or Yakima crossbars and feet - use their 'Artificial Raingutters' & just drill straight through the fiberglass top. Use some extra large washers or a backing plate on the inside. I'd post a picture of mine, but I'm having trouble with pictures. Maybe later.

K cool dude thanks! I've been waitin here for a reply hah I want to get that sucker on there... so just drill the 'Artificial Raingutters' onto the top? How thick is the topper... dont want to go through ha

How much do the crossbars, feet, and gutters cost? Wow thats a lot of stuff... do you know a good website by chance with all that on there?

Thanks alot

Go used for the rack set-up - new would be too much $$.
How I did mine:

The 'Artificial Raingutter' is sandwiched between 2 pieces of synthetic wood (won't rot, warp, splinter, etc.). Just attach your new basket to the crossbars and you're off.
For the mounting - Drill all the way through!! The fiberglass won't hold much stress.

Ok well I just wanted to see how she looked all painted up so I took some pictures of it... I still need to by some metal for the bottom of it but I am just going to weld some fence like stuff...

Ok question is on the first picture where the red boxes are could I just weld some metal pieces going down like that... 2 on each side that are kind of like this "\_" and then on the part like this _ just screw that to the topper? Any help would be appreciated... Thanks
