Question Need Help - ARB Locker w/4.88 Gears

On Monday I am going to Randy's Ring and Pinion to order 3rd members for my 2001 Tacoma. I am going to get ARB Lockers front and rear geared to 4.88. I am doing a lift and will run 33x10.5 BFG M/T, but i'm thinking 4.56 gearing. I have read threads for three days now and haven't heard anyone regreting 4.88 verses 4.56 or vise versa. Any ideas or feed back will be appreciated. I am getting the complete units for $2700

do you have the v6 or the 4 cylinder? if you have a 4 banger you'll want 4.88s definitly, not sure about the v6 though

I have the 4. A friend asked me the same question and said he would do the 4.88s.
Thanks for the input.

I think another factor is the transmission. I think with a manual-tranny (on the 2.7L) the 4.56 gears would be a good fit (from what I've heard). With an auto, you'd probably be better off with the 4.88s.

ive got the 4 with 5 speed, and the 4.88s are more than enough and i only have 32's. i dont regret getting the 4.88s either, 4.56 would be nice on the freeway, but offroad, there is no better choice.

however, Steve (sschaefer3) has 5.29s with his 285's (approx 33"). so i say the 4.88s are what you want!

good luck!

i'm actually toying with the idea of 5.29s when i regear and get a new transmission(hopefully w56, have to get new driveshafts to fit it though). that would give me quite a bit more pulling power to tow my little boat

5.29's w/32's? seems like it will redline @ 45mph. i am going to keep my 3rd members so i can build 5.29's for the 35s or 37s that i am going to get in the future.
