Unhappy Need help....

I am looking to remove the factory radio from my 2002 Tacoma. Can anyone tell me/show me pics on how to remove the radio? I have looked at the dash around the radio but I am not sure. I am scared that I will break something on my new truck without some guidance. Thanks!!!

Hello Dan, if the dash is anything like the 3rd gen 4Runners, check out the Tech section here at YotaTech.

There is an article in there on removing a radio, and putting back in an aftermarket unit.

If the dashes are similiar, that article should be of help.

Dan try www.installdr.com They have instructions for most vehicles. If not it's really not all that hard to take Yota dashes apart if you want to just wing it. Good luck.

Looks like a great site, unfortunately it seems to be down or something. After I select my truck from their menu, it is unable to find that page. Hrm!

Try this one:

It says it is good for up to the 2001 models - and I'm not sure there is much difference with the 2002. So this is probably what you are looking for. I recently did mine and it is pretty easy.

Remove the heater knobs and panel.
Remove the lower dash covering.
One snap connector on each side
Pull the covering to the rear.
Remove the ash tray.
Remove two screws mounted vertically, formerly concealed by the ash tray.
Remove one screw formerly concealed by the lower covering.
Remove two screws formerly covered by the heater panel.
Pull the surround to the rear, starting at the bottom.

One the surround is out of the way, there are four brass screws, two on each side, holding the radio in place. Remove the screws and pull the radio forward.

That PDF is accurate right up to the rear speakers in the XCab. On the 2001's and up, the speaker grill is not removable. So, you have to dismantle all of the plastic trim back there to replace the speakers... It's not a pleasant experience.
