Need to get stuck sunroof shut before winter!

My sunroof is in the tilt" position up when it decided to get stuck its a 97 limited and when i use the switch i hear the click that the switch is working but no movement. i just won a bid for new switches/motor but i dont want to have to tear my roof apart and install if not necessary and this is a common problem

have you checked the relay? Sounds like your going to have to take it apart either way.

i dont think there is a fuse, just a relay. try to replace the relay and see if it works.

can you use the manual override crank or is that only to close the sliding panel part of the roof...it should be in the owners manual

If you are getting power to the motor then it is not a fuse. The issue may be the linkage or possibly the limit switch. If you have tried all positions on the switch (didn't say if it was a single switch or a dual open tilt switch) and you can hear the motor operating, then the issue is not the relay or the switch. I just downloaded the FSM for my 98 as I am trying to get the power restored to my windows and moon roof. You can go to their website and for $10 you can subscribe for a single day and have access to any Toyota/Scion/Lexus vehicle they made and download the Factory service manual, electrical schematics, repair manual, owners manual, service bulletins if it was printed they have it there. here is the link to get you started: https://techinfo.toyota.com/techInfoPortal/

If the issue is just the roof being open/tilt and the switch is the failure, you can disconnect the connector suppling power to the roof and manually close the roof. I had my drivers window down when I lost power to the windows and roof after a mirror install. I ended up checking the circuitry and found the repair/troubleshooting procedure along with the pins I need to connect power to, then all I had to do was to put 12 vdc to the two wires for the motor and the window worked just fine and got it closed. If you need the schematic, I can try to look at the manual I downloaded and if I can find it can email it to you. Other wise check with the site and for $10 you can download to your hearts content. If you want to maximize your time, subscribe in the early evening and you will get credit until 11:59pm the next day. You will have to set up an "account" but it doesn't cost to start just to subscribe.
