Neat mountng idea for 4th gen GPS

Anyone else notice that, with a bit of persuasion, a Garmin 26xx would probably fit in the sunglasses holder compartment by the rearview mirror? (The wife's Honda Odyssey has the same thing, must be cranked out by an OEM supplier.) You could also probably tap into the overhead lighting electrical, and mount the optional windshield-mount antennae right there at the windshield. Now, imagine if you could do all this and retain the ability to open and close the compartment, thus keeping the GPS unit out of sight when not in use...hmmm...I'm not the fabricating type, but I am tempted to run to the dealer and buy the compartment part to tinker with. Oh, I guess I'd have to buy the GPS uni, too.

Thats not a bad spot for one. I like the idea of being able to close it up out of site. I will have to see if my Garmen will fit. No I just jam it in the A pilar to hold it in place. After if falls a few times I just set in in the cup holder. Going to look into that one.

You have a Garmin 26xx? Let me know the results of your preliminary look. Without a unit myself, but having an idea of the size from the measurements fon their website, seems like some small plastic-cutting is necessary, like the nosebridge-piece at the botom, and maybe the plastic above so the unit will fit in as it closes. But what about the antennae and powerlines? Do they come in from the back or on the sides. Finally, I'd think some good velcro woud be enough to hold it in place assuming the hlder would be supporting the unit's weight.
