Nasty brake feel...

Our 4Runner has 46k on it right now, and its a 2000.

Recently, when driving, Ive been feeling vibration from the brake pedal. If I press it hard, Itll vibrate harder, adn even make a scraping sound. WTF is this? The parking brake is always used, if that makes a difference.

Try taking the wheel off & looking at the condition of the rotors, i.e., look for warping & pad wear.

vibration sounds like rotor warp/the scraping noise sounds like the low brake pad indicator (or your brake pads are extremly low and are scrapping the rotors) I'd have them checked out asap.......usually the e-brake is to keep the rear shoes adjusted not for the front pads......

I have exactly the same problem. My mechanic is checking if the rotors are warped.

Let you know what happens.

Maybe the hard braking from a 90mph doughnut had something to do with it?

If they are Toyota rotors, then they are warped. Replace them with Brembos.

Man, you guys are tough!!!

The 4Runners are notorious for warped rotors. I replaced mine with Brembo's after the dealership replaced them with another set of OEM rotors. Both the original OEM's and replacement OEM's warped rather fast. I now have about 20k miles on the Brembos with no problem.

There is a TSB for this problem. You might be able to get the dealership to replace them for free. Do a search. There's been lots of discussions on this issue.

your both wrong just hang a cow bell off the rear bumper to off-set the wobble from the rotors..... and then just turn up the radio to drown out the scrapping noise......

ROFL I love you guys.

Hmm...Brembos sound yummy...what pads should I get with them? and how hard are they to change?

The 90MPH donuts couldnt be it, because the truck was moving at 0MPH. All I had to do was let off the throttle and the rear wheels wouldve stopped.

It's a pretty straight forward operation that I've seen many writeups on this forum about (use the ever invaluable "search" feature) & you'll want to be stopping those "Brembo" babies with "ceramic" pads.
"Wiper fluid", "headlight fluid" & "cow bells", just how much "love" can ya expect from one online forum anyway??
"I pity the fool that don't know no better!"
I'm new here & I've already pissed myself twice!(see the"log" bit in the stereo section for the first pisser)

no no. if you have water leaking, that means the diribose transducer is getting near max, (in latent terms) turn the A/C down a notch... the headlight fluid resevoir is under the battery...
1st step: open hood (pull towards you on little lever to right of gas lever)
2nd step: remove battery from engine compartment
3rd step: find blinker fluid resevoir...
4th step: drink a beer for going to step 3 in the first place...

hope this helps.... im always here if you need me....

I changed my pads with Performance Friction when I put the Brembo's on. Autozone has them for abot $29 or $39... Can't recall for sure.

There are lot's of threads on this combo.
