Name that noise...... tires?
So when I left michigan on tuesday, my truck had a little growl to it when driving that I just attributed to tire noise... Well when I got to missouri some 11 hours later, my light growl has turned into a more raging one. When tires wear down, or a front end is off and you get soem weird wear, will that greatly increase tire noise? Is it possible that I'm overlooking my diffs and thats the true culprit to my noise?
The tires are some Goodyear something or others, 265/75... they are a moderate tread pattern, if i remember correctly a highway like A/T.

tires get louder when they wear down... and goodyears are notorius for being loud anyways.... i personally think goodyear anything sucks... the only goodyears i would ever put on anything of mine are the mt/r... and i dont really like those that much....

many people seem to like mtrs... i personally dont... thats jsut my opinion.... from what i have seen workign in the tire industry for over 6 years, goodyears in general wear funny, make a lot of noise, are usually requested to not have put back on a customers car, and dont balance very well/easily, also they last jsut as long as any of the otehr tires out there..... thats enough experience to me to dislike them.....
any MT tire will have crummy wear, they are soft, and with that comes increased traction, but when used in situations that they were designed for, normally dont last very long at all.... i currently have bfg mts.. and they are great offroad, make a deal of noise onroad, but suck in rain.... personally, they are fine for me though, i know how to drive in the rain with them, im used to it

with 6 yrs in the tire business, you can probably answer this well then... i need a tire with good wear, i do a fair amount of highway drivin... but a tire with real good traction in snow/mud. I was thinkin a M/T, but would a A/T be better? and how much of a loss in traction will i see?

Be sure you aren't hearing a wheel bearing or something like that. When a bearing starts to go they get noiser fast. Wheel bearing failure can be firghtening to say the least. Just a head's up.

Phil - I don't think its a wheel bearing, the noise sounds like its comin from all four corners, but I'll look into it.
Jeff - What do you mean by tires cupping?
Thanks guys

Cupping is where every other tread lug will be a different height than the previous one, or each lug will wear at an angle(front to back) instead of flat. There are many causessuch as an unbalanced tire condition, faulty wheel bearings, loose parts, fatigued springs or weak shock absorbers.
