I recently bought 89 4 runner sr5 with 22 re engine and didn't get owners manual so I have questions about 2 buttons That I can't figure out. 1. On top of the steering wheel right to the hazard button is a little button that says push- I pushed and nothing happened!?The truck has adjustable steering wheel but it is adjusted by the lever on the right side. 2. On the left side of the dash is a large switch with something orange on it and says deck lamp-pushed nothing happened? What does these buttons do? Thanks!

Wow! Guess you are on the other side of the planet.

#1. That button is to release the key from the ignition. You need to push the button in so the key will release. Doesn't work on my rig being that my key is really worn.

#2. Turn on your headlights then push that button so it lights up. Go to the rear cargo area of your 4runner and look on the drivers side. There is a light. That button on the dash will turn on that light. If the light isn't on, the light itself has a button.
I just need to figure what the little plug in is near that light switch on the dash. Do you have this?

Almost on the other side .It is hard to get any info about first gen 4runner in my country because there ar only 2 or 3.The second gen is much more common because UNPROFOR had this wehicle during the war so meny people bought it from them.
Thanks very much-I think I have a plug in that you are talkingh about but my car is in the shop right now because I blown a headgasket so I'll check it out next week.I didn't have time to take the pics yet, but they will be coming soon .

I didn't know about the button either and was wondering why I was running into dead batteries (thought my alternator was gone) until I was riding with Cabbage and realized what that button was :pat:

The plug - is it a two prong receptacle almost similar to a household wall plug? If so, my 85 SR5 came with a trouble light in the tool bag that plugged into that receptacle. Never used it in 15 years....

How did you empty the batteries because of not using that button??
PS. My key is worn also-I can take it out at any point.

I wore out the batteries because my clock would stay on, the stereo face (while off) would stay on, etc... not a lot of things but enough for the battery to die.
Oh I should mention that at the time I was just driving it once a week.

It can't so long as you turn the key all the way to "off" before removing. If you were to remove the key in the "acc" position, there would be a small but consistent battery drain.
