I'm not sure if I can compare our two engines/years, but my 3VZE 4Runner has been to Alaska and back (to Montana), pulling a trailer, averaging 24 mpg at 65 miles per hour. This is before my mods. Maybe it's just an engine fluke. Or the 5 speed transmission.

Punching a cat is ILLEGAL for the streets andywhere you live. No matter if you have emissions tests or not. It is a federal regulation not a state regulation. Sorry for the bummer even though a lot of people do it.
