My new starter
So the starter went out on my truck. Got a new one and put it in a few days later. Now when I start the truck it grinds a little right after it starts up. What is going on??? It appeared to me that I put everything back together right, as it is just a starter, not that much can go wrong... something I missed?
Starter came from Napa and it was a reman

Any way you can get your old starter back? Its very easy to repair:

If not, pull that starter, open up the solenoid and see what the contacts look like inside. Likely they could be worn or the solenoid plunger could be dirty and either of those will cause the starter to stay engaged for a while after you release the key.

Sounds like the plunger is not retracting fast enough. You may have some grit or dirt stuck behind the gear or the starter may not be aligned properly. Pull it and try cleaning the unit or just take it back and ask for a replacement.
