My new (to me) 4Runner. Talk about walking backwards LOL!

The new addition to our hiking/desert playing duo made it necessary to give up on my old 4Runner http://members.aol.com/mfinja/ben/85.jpg and get one with 4 doors http://members.aol.com/mfinja/ben/93.jpg
It is possibly the most plain jane 4 door 4Runner ever made and I drove 600 miles round trip to get it.
I know, call me a dumb but I really wanted a 4 door that I could make into the new desert banger without having a bunch of extra junk hanging off of it. It is a 1993, 4 cyl, 5sp, no airconditioning, no power windows, no power door locks, no sunroof, no power mirrors (love those fold-in mirrors!), 113k with good tires. The only thing it has is power steering, power brakes and a tow package that I will likely remove.
A word of advice: never drive 600 miles to buy and old car or truck when you are sick and your wife is afraid of driving in city traffic. We left late Friday night and got back around noon today. Of the whole journey, Ben was the high note. Looks like he is going to be a good travel buddy. The only time he really cried it turned out he had basically exploded and was covered in poop. That provided me the opportunity to stand out in snow/rain in a driving wind trying not to cough my lungs out and choke on my own snot
I wound up paying a bit more than I wanted since I just wasn't up for a fight. It was listed on one lot at $5990, at another of their lots for $5555 and I got it for $5200 which sounded like a good deal until they sprung that $399 dealer handling and added profit fee!! Assholes. I told the guy he rooked me since I had point blank asked about the fee and he had made up some line about not having to pay the $45 fee. Hell, the $45 fee was if I was applying for credit and I paid cash. I did make a point to tear off all their advertising crap from the key ring and the license plate LOL!
Truck seems to be in really pretty good shape. I think the back two injectors are hammering and I'm going to replace all of them. If it runs good, but sounds bad I can't stand it.
The future? My favorite toy, the '85 EFI has to go away and in my dream world by this summer the '93 will have a SAS and gears. I wanted as close to my old 85 with 4 doors as I could get and this was the best I could do for being in somewhat of a hurry.

Congrats! I know you've been hunting for a while. That has low miles for the year, my 90 has 100k more. That looks really clean, has it been painted?

Congratulations on the 4Runner! I used to have to have plain 2nd gen but mine had the air conditioning, chrome bumpers and door handles. Either way, you'll love it!

BTW, where'd you end up going for it & how did you find it? I'm still keeping an eye open for something a little newer with lower miles, but can't find any with that setup around here.

The wonders of not up close photography LOL! It is the original paint with enough fading and scattered scratches to prove it. It really is clean and although I'm sure it had some use, it appears to be pretty much all highway mileage. The interior, although clearly gone over by the car lot show very little wear. That'll change

I found it on Autotrader.com after searching, searching, searching....
I almost bought a '94 off of eBay from Chicago, but the evident amount of rust showing on it made me nervous. So, what do I do? I drive to SALT Lake City and buy one LOL! There is a tiny amount of surface rust throughout the undercarriage, but after scraping and stabbing at stuff I never found any that was more than just on the surface and there isn't a spec of rust anywhere on the body.
If you don't mind automatics, there is one on Autotrader now with only 48k miles and an auto for something like $6399.
Of course, what will happen now, is I'll find one with the w56 tranny with gear drive transfercase combo that I finally gave up on finding. :pat:
I wanted to get into one with the lowest mileage and lowest price I could get at one time so I would have some $$ left over to work on it. I'm hoping to get somewhere around $4k for my old 85 EFI so I won't have too much in the truck to start out, but I may have worn out my luck just getting this truck
