My latest gas saving scam

so i own a 2002 toyota tacoma reg 4x4 2.7 liter automatic.
so here it goes gas prices are going up and up. and i was saying to my self damn i wish i had cruise control especialy after my last run in with the law witch involved a $204 speeding ticket.

so how to do the cruise control thing for next to nothing in price so i went and pulled a cruise servo switch and control modual from a 1998 chevy prizm........ you might be like wtf right but for those who know a chevy prizm is pretty much a toyota corrola. and every component was plug and play/ but there are still a few things to work out like the switch that came on the taco was a 2 wire but the one that i picked up is a 3 wire. so ill letchyall know how this works out but if it does well then fun beans

unless you have a lead foot, the cruise will not likely save you any money, when i use mine i actually get worse mileage, it seems to floor it on every small incline, as far as the speeding tickets, in my experience, as long as your not speeding when you set it, you wont speed, but if your gonna speed, dont usee cc, your quicker to let off the gas then move your foot to the brake, my $.02, goodluck

Installing cruise is a good idea if you don't have it because I don't know what i would do without it, but i tend to get better gas mileage if i just adjust the gas myself especially going up hills. The cruise does tend to floor it on any incline. Good to have on long flat drives but a killer on the gas when hills get involved. Good luck with it though!

Think you may need some wiring diagrams. See if the local dealership can help you out.

My cruise saves me gas on level roads, but as soon as I hit a hill it floors it, and keeps it floored. So I usually just take control of it then.

naw im good ive got my diagrams from shopkey5 . i attend the uti in orlando so i printed it out. this morning i noticed that by adding a missing wire to the harness that i was able to get the cruise lamp to illiuminate but the cruise on-off switch is mixed with my signal wire so i gotta take off my airbag again and pull the wires from the connector and if all goes well i wil post pics and a step by step on this modification i amperforming.

Best way to save gas: From a stop or light, accelerate slowly and dont gun it everywhere.

how right you are but those of us with the deckplate mod just live to hear it roar a bit.

Most of us have dropped the roof racks until we really need them, that would help quite a bit on highway mileage.

okay a little bit....

Okay, I might be missing something here but wouldnt it just be easier to swap in a unit from a taco that had cruise control originally? I have Cruise control on my '94 but its pretty much useless.

think about what you just said........................ ok. how many tacos do you see at th junkyard........... for you maybe a few but where im from its mostly one or the most likely none. new tacos dont go to junk yard i think they all end up in toyota heaven where they belong or something....!lol and to buy a setup online could cost you any from $250 or a little less or more give or take . or you can get the parts from the dealer which cost well lets see acoding to this price guide i found on custom tacos http://www.customtacos.com/tech/files/01_parts_list.pdf $1238.53 for the actuator the cable is $75.48 the module is $397.60 o yeah and for the switch well thats included with a new steering wheel so slap on another $923.55 so all together thats $2635.16......a price that some one might be willing to pay if they lacked electrical skills

so you decide
dealer=2635.16
aftermarket=aroud $250
or junkyard and some time=$50
