Got my LF170s in today. Going to go mount them now. Quick question for you guys. I still have my wiring intact for the foglamps (now removed). Can I just run wires from these to the foglamp wires? Also what type of wire do I need to pick up? I don't know anything about electrical work. Other then red is positive, and black is ground.

I'd just match the gage wire you got to extend it and wire it up to the existing stuff if possible. If not, did it come with a wiring kit? I got a basic write-up on my website how I did my Hellas, but it came with everything I needed. If not, I could AIM you through it perhaps...

Just stick the lights in your ears and grab both poles on the battery!

Their mounted .. just need to be tightened down .. Damn TJM, they couldn't leave an extra inch between the bumper and the bar so I could easly slip a rachet wrench in there ...

So the gauge wire I'm assuming is written on there somewhere. It has a wiring kit for $30. But I figure I already have a switch and pre-wiring done, no need to spend extra money. ... my cheap ass side kicking in.

You should be able to eyeball it and get the right size or use a wire gage on a set of wire pliers. I'd say it's probably 12-16 gage, or just take the wire with you and match it up where you buy the wire. Or get off your wallet and pony up for the wiring kit!

I extended the wires from my factory foglights using 16 gauge elec. wire when I put the Hella 500 on the TJM. The Hellas are not polarity sensitive and I don't know if the LF are. Did you have the little factory fogs on your stock bumper? Those are the wires I extended for the Hella 550.

also the guy gave me 24 gauge wire .. should I have gotten something different .. like 16 (george).

In the lamp kit, it's two runs of black tubing with plastic connectors and small little "cap" looking things. The cap things are small air filters.

You HAVE to use these... They pop into the lamps on the top (bottom? I can't remember) and allow clean air to circulate through the lamp. The warranty is void if you don't use 'em.

NO NO NO! Do NOT use 24 gauge wire with these lamps - it's too small for the current that you'll be pulling. You should be using at least 18 gauge wire.

As for tapping into the fog lamp harness, I wouldn't really suggest wiring straight to it, I think it's too light. You _can_ use the fog lamp wiring as a trigger for a dedicated relay.

You can still wire it up directly. Remember, the stock foglight wiring already has a relay in the fuse box. That's how I wired up my Hellas so I can still utilize the light stalk/switch and in order to free up a dash cutout for the ARB. So far, no problems at all. Only drawback is, I can only use my fogs with low beams.

Ummm, but isn't the stock fog wiring like 20gauge wire? The point being that the stock fog lights draw a lot less current than the LF-170's.

They are 16 gauge. I bought the additional wire at Radioshack and soldered it to the existing wire after cutting the female connector. I went to the dealer looking for a male connector so I can unhook them whenever I wanted to but the dork behind the counter said they don't sell them .

Anyway, how much do the LF draw? What's the wattage of the light bulbs?

16 gauge, n/m then...

The LF 170's use 100 watt bulbs, so they're pulling 8 1/2 amps each.
