My Custom Receiver Shackle *pics*
Ok, so its not the hardest thing to design, but I was so pleased with how it came back I just had to brag a little.
Had some 2 inch steel barstock, cut it to length. I've got a friend that did the metal work. Just said cut here, drill here and I get a work of art. It will get powder coated soon.

I thought about that for a few seconds. I just dont think I could make it cost effective. Calling in a favor for some fab work is fine for one. But I dont think it would work if I dropped off 50 pounds of steel.
The powder coating is expensive too. If I was to just get this one piece done they would charge 100 bucks. I know a guy whose is sending in a truck frame and this will just tag along for a minimal price.
The only reason I had my own made was to have the extra hole so it could be rotated

I had to laugh when I read the topic "Customer receiver shackle". Unless you meant it to say that, in which case I was laughing cause my girlfriend was tickling my feet witha feather.

not excatly a set of holes, more like one that goes all the way through.But yes, thats why the second hole is there. So you can mount it with the shackle swingin side to side. I figured it would be better and stonger this way if I was pulling or being pulled at an angle.

Once it gets powder coated and installed it will have a zip tie for the pin.
Here's a pic of what I used to move my wood trailer across the lawn. I didnt want to tear up the sod with the Caterpillar. Its the poor mans shackle receiver mount.

It worked for the 150 feet I had to go.

one tip: dont leave the shackles just hanging there...
sure it looks cool and all, but unless you lock it down along with the receive piece, that $10 (or more) d-shackle tends to grow some legs.
i was wheeling a few years and ago and someone in our party had his mounted on his rear bumper. we left our trucks to walk down this small stream to watch others do the rocks.
a few days later, i see an email asking if anyone saw someone that took his shackle... we theorized that another bunch of wheelers, not with our party stole it since he mentioned it disappeared when he noticed it while airing up...
after that, i keep mine in a bag up front with me so instant access, yet i can still lock up the truck...

To keep mine from growing legs I put a set screw in. The screw takes me about 15-30 seconds to remove, but that is because I have the right tools. It wouldn't be worth anybody elses time to try to get them off.
I also have it locked to the bar with a regular hitch lock

Yeah...the zip-tie deal works for me too. Haven't lost it yet...although the other day I did need to take it off to hook up a strap and I didn't have any diagonal cutters so I was kinda screwed.
Needless to say I've now got 2 pairs of them handy whenever I need em!

We got a hell of a deal on the powdercoating. I know a guy that restores cars and he had a customer that was getting a frame done, so we just sent my shackle hanger, a custom drawbar hitch and a couple metal planters (for mom), had it all done for 40 bucks!
