My '85 can barely get up to speed!
My '85 4runner 22re runs fine in park. Motor runs good revs up great. It's automatic and i have to start out in low so i dont get run over on the highway. It has alot of torque in low and revs up fine but, in drive i feel like a granny. I just barely give it gas to go, when i push the gas pedal to the floor it doesn't do anything different(rpms stay the same). It doesnt feel like the tranny is slipping. I figured that since it has plenty of torque in low that the torque converter is alright. Im hoping its just some kind of vacuum problem that wont let it rap out in drive.? I cant find any good vacuum hose diagrams anywhere, they are all lacking something. any Ideas on how to get 'er going?

almost sounds like a torque converter slipping, it can hang in there down low but once you get into peak hp and tq it lets go. Id keep checking those vac lines but dont know if they'd affect how youve described the problem. hope it hleps.

i'm starting to think my tranny isnt dropping into a low enough gear in DRIVE. It seems to do great in low, lots of torque and power. Im messing w/ the tranny throttle cable now and trying to see if it makes any difference.
