My 4runner dielemma
Okay, to make a long story short; my dad wants to trade in the family 4runner, which is a 93' and me and my fathers daily driver, for a more newer and powerful 2000 4runner. My dielemma is which one should we keep, the old, or the new? But since the 93' is old I feel like retiring it, and passing it on, and giving new life to the 2000 4runner.
Now my question is to all you guys is; whats better in overall performance, reliability, and conveinence, the 2nd gen or th 3rd gen? (I don't do much off-roading)
Much help appreciated

since you are running the 3.0 then i personally saw a difference in mpg when i sold my 92 and got a 3rd gen. i am getting way better gas mileage right now at about 21-22mpg with the 3.4. but im not much for punching the gas, although i was for a bit when i first got it.

Rocket, the 93' belongs to my father, I just use the 4runner to drive around and add mods too. Plus, I would love to drive a 3.4 equipped 4runner insted, 3.0 mileage is starting to kill me, and beginning to be less "peppy" than b4.
I heard the 3.4 has tons of power on tap in stock form, is this true, or am I making it up?

I drove a 2nd gen ('90) from 1990 to 2002 totaling 205,000 mile before I sold it. I've been driving my 3rd gen ('00) since 2002 with 93,000.
Performance: 3rd Gen
Reliability: About even
Fuel Mileage: About even (both in the 20mpg neighborhood)
Whatever I liked better on the 2nd gen is overshadowed by the extra power of the 3rd gen.

I would take the mpg for what's it worth. I've noticed a lot of people saying their 3.4's get them 20+mpg. I have a 99 2WD (lighter than the 4WD) that was pretty much stock that only got 15 mpg. Now I mostly drive on the streets with very little highway but when I use a tank for mostly highway, the most mpg I've gotten has been 17. My truck has new plugs, gets oil changes every 3 to 4,000 miles and the tranny fluid is changed/serviced regularly. It could be that my truck is not as efficient as others but if you read more, other 3.4's have consistent mpg with me. Sorry for the long post.
