Mt/r or stock
I am at school at the Univeristy of Denver and take my 4runner with mt/r tires up skiing every weekend. I am starting to think if I should put my stock tires and rims back on for this winter season since I am not rock crawling, but highway driving up to the mountains. My 33's make it difficult to accelerate in the mountains and they also dont handle good on icy roads. Do ya'll think I should throw my stockies back on until spring? Will it be safe to have those small 31" tires with my 3 or 4 inches of lift? Also, I sometimes randomly pull off the road to drive through deep snow for fun, but am worried my stock tires will just get me stuck. What ya'll think?

sounds fine... it sounds liek you want o put the stockers back on, but then you say it wont handle offorad like it should... you have t odeal with compromise, which would be better? chew up the mud tires, no ice traction, and play -- or use the street tires and not play in the snow? it is up to you...

I always wonder about the two sets of tires. Why not get gears and be pleased with how the rig looked and performed all the time?
Adding stock tires to head to the mountains just sounds silly to me.

I pulled my 285 MT's in favor of wearing out a set of 265 AT's on my stock wheels I had lying around. So I am running little tires for the lift I have right now. Funny thing is it doesn't look bad at all and it doesn't handle any different. In fact you can actually tell it's lifted again. However, when the 265's are toast I will go back to 285's and when they're toast...here come the 315's (lower gears, upper a-arms, more trimming, etc.).
