I was over at the Walmart this past weekend and noticed that a Motocraft oil filter appears to be almost identical to the filter I use on my 3.0 motor. One major difference is the Motocraft filter is longer and therfore offers more filtering surface area. I have been seeing good reviews for Motocraft filters and thought if this is compatible I'm going to make the switch. The Motorcraft filter is FL-2005. Does anyone use this filter on their 3.0?

Really? Then explain to me why my 351W is at 462,000 miles. No rebuilds, only good maintenance. BTW I only used the Motocraft FL-1A filter.

That's proof enough for me.

It appears to be for a Ford Focus 2.0 application.
I dont recommend using another visually identical filter without knowing the specs, the thread size/pitch, gasket, bypass valve etc may be different and cause problems.

I use a Motorcraft filter every time I change my oil (I work at a Ford Dealer) there is one that is the exact same as OEM-I will find out the #.

are you driving a ford? unless you stuck a blue oval under the hood forget motorcraft parts. The best filter for that engine is the factory toyota part, yes it is smaller than the ford part but because of the way the filter media is installed there is more of it then in the larger ford part. another plus is with the smaller filter it will take less oil to fill the system. I have always run factory filters in my yotas and have never had a problem. Cheers aviator

i run a 1515 wix filter, which just so happens to be a ford filter...

i've finally realized that most of this "run only OEM dealer parts" mindset is a bunch of snake oil....

I have a FL-400S on mine, it has the same bypass valve specs and is about an inch and a half longer. Plus with a silicone anti-drainback valve, even after over a week of not running the truck, I've never had that few seconds of valve noise from an empty filter that I used to get with fram and supertech.

Who do you think makes oil filters?? Toyota and Ford sure don't. They are all made by 3 main companies--Fram, wix, Purolator. They just have different levels of quality.

Dont forget Fleetguard. Associated with Cummins Diesel (not sure what the linkage is) and mainly an OEM and fleet supplier. But Ive used their filters on personal cars (side benefit of the job) and currently use them on my 92 CV (280K miles) and my Impala SS with LT1. Unfortunately Toyotas arent common in commercial truck fleets so nada for my 4runner

just change your oil when needed and there all really the same (no stealership parts)

Not so at all. I'd take a toyota filter before a fram any day of the week save maybe that TG that you use. Check out this link about oil filters.

The Motorcraft filter for a 3.0 is the FL-793. I'm a tech at a Ford dealership and have used this filter for several years with no problems. 280k and still going great. It doesnt have the anti drain back valve but thats not needed on this engine cause the filter always has oil in it since the filter is mounted at about 45 degrees downward.

the filter you are thinking of is the motorcraft fl400s

it is the equivalent of the phram (although they suck) ph3600

the yota uses a 3614



the fl400s is perfectly fine



i actually use the larger version which is a motorcraft fl1a on my yota, equivalent to the phram ph8a
