more suspension options

I saw the post about 3rd gen 4runners,
I have a 1st gen. anybody know tha lift options for mine?

Crank the t bar in the front, get spring pack for the back, you can lift around 1.5" to 2" if you get manual Aisin hubs.

I have the Sway-A-Way aftermarket torsion bars cranked, 1.5" lift add-a-leaf, and 1.5" lift rear shackles on mine-but the rear is a bit higher than the front!

How does cranking the torsion bars effect the ride quality, and the handeling of the truck? Does it make the 4runner any less strong when going off road?
I have thought of doing this before, but I want some feedback from some people that have already done it.

Well you need to measure the ride height first, and when you crank the bars, you should not go any higher than about 1.5" and don't crank them unless you have manual hubs. If you overdo it, the results can be expensive. I did just that, and ended up having to replace both upper and lower ball joints, pitman and idler arms in addition to getting an alignment after all that! The ride will be a bit stiffer. I have to crank the torsion bars since I have a heavy winch bumper and winch even though it is not enough to level the truck with the 3" lift out back. Also since you have a 1st gen, you will need to use a wrench on the top nut as well as a wrench on the bolt to tighten the torsion bar preload. I have a 3rd gen pickup I only need a 22mm wrench on the bolt head. Good luck!

lift for a 1 st gen

do a solid axle swap and run 44044's springs up front and run chevy rear spring in the rear. I know thats not what you were thinking but its idea.

I would realy like to put on about a 3" suspension lift. Then 32x11.5's.
I went to "4 wheel drive parts" and priced a set-up. After about 30 minutes and telling them my life story, then them trying to sell me everyting else under the sun, they finally gave me an answer.
$980.00 for the Pro-comp lift kit, then I would have to install it my self. The odd thing is, the price they gave me was $180 more than the advertised price they showed me when I first walked in. And it was about $250 more than anyplace else I looked. I think they just added a bunch of stuff to the estimate.
PLus they said that no-one makes anyting but a 4 inch lift for 1st gen 4runners.

Anyway, I know a bunch of guys have lifts on thier trucks, any opinions on them, and which is better?
