More reverse light questions

I've been trying to find a used neutral safety switch for my '92 4runner (3.0 w/auto trans) but have been unsuccussful. Before I put out $160+ for a new switch, I'd like to verify that the NSS is what's really causing my lack of backup lights. Does anyone have an easy to follow trouble shooting guide? Are there any other switches or relays that might cause the failure? Any way to test the NSS prior to buying another?

Here is a thread that I started on another site. I don't have back up lights either on my first generation.

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showth...?threadid=8686

I assumed it was the NSS and replaced it. The back up lights worked after replacing the switch temporarily, however now I have no back up lights again.

I haven't had time to fiddle with it anymore.

Cabelas has the best back up lights I have seen. A friend of mine just mounted them on his truck and mine will be next. All Tacoma backup lights really suck. Some guy's place tin foil in them just to get a better light.
The one's from Cabelas sell for $29.00 and includes the mounting brackets and wires. No drilling if you mount them on each side of your hitch mounting bracket under the frame. They are 55w Halogen's and they can be wired to work with your reverse switch or you can switch them manually.
If you want a set the item number is ff-52-0842 and they are called "deluxe backup light kit" Mike

Backup lights circuit - Auto only:
Gauges fuse to Backup Lights Switch (black/orange) AND to Backup Lights Relay Terminal 2 (black/orange.)
Relay coil- (term 3) is grounded to the body (white/black.)

When the Backup Light Switch closes power goes out through the red/black wire to the Relay (relay coil+ (term 1.) This trips the relay and the fused power goes from Backup Lights Relay out of term 4 on the Red/yellow wire to the backup lights. (It's red/black at the lights themselves.)
The backup lights are grounded to the frame.

If you find the fuse, B/U lt switch, B/U lts relay, and the BU lt bulbs <grin> then 3 minutes with a test light will tell you what's up. The B/U lt relay is above the fuse panel in the driver side kick panel.

*edited to add wire colors*

They look very slick Beartracker, but not sure if they actually come with actual hardware of just the 3M tape. Would you happen to know the dimensions especially the depth? The product code is IF-520842 because I tried the FF first and wouldnt take.

Thank You

Just went there to Cabelas site and clicked on Automotive and then entered ff-52-0842 the catalobg item number and it came right up. Click on the picture and it gives you a huge pic. Maybe this will help.
