Mods/Upgrades for my 00' 4Runner SR5, 5spd

Hi all,

I plan on adding more power to my 4Runner.
I've heard great things about adding the TRD supercharger,
but I'm not ready for that.

I am looking into adding the Injen short ram air intake. Any feedback??
I also found the TRD Headers ($900) and the TRD Cat-Back Exhaust ($700)
for my car.
Is anyone out there using these products???
Do they produce more hp??
Is the exhaust loud??
Please let me know if there's a better way for me to start modifying my car.

thanks,

maguirre

personally i would say no need for $1500 in exhuast mods on a relatively stock vehicle, you will be grossly disappointed... look into a performance chip, the intake and getting a custom bent exhuast... the cats that come on stock vehicles nowadays are relatively high flow, just have a shop custom bend you an ehaust with a performance muffler, that should be relatively cheap (under $200 or so)

there is always internal engine mods, but if you arent ready for the s/c, then internal engine mods are probably out of the question....

about the headers, they are good, but i doubt that you will notice a major improvement on a stock truck, and will probably be very disappointed figuring all the $ you just spent

I would have to agree with jimabena based on the research on these boards. I was pretty set on some downey headers but after all the responses on this board about the painful install with not so much extra hp, I've decided to pass. Some say the electric fan mod takes weight off the truck and strain off the motor that it improves hp. This mod would be much cheaper than your TRD exhaust you asked about.

Save the $$$ and do the deckplate mod to the airbox and get the same 6-7whp for much less. Also avoid those "chips" or performance modules sold on ebay, they will do nothing on your 4Runner.
You also can get a muffler shop to make you a nice exhaust with your choice of muffler and it should keep the price under $300 but the performance gain is minimal on a stock Runner but the better exhaust note might be worth it.
