modding the steering column on a body lift

I have a 94 p/u 4x4 and i am installing a 3" body lift. the instructions say something about modifying the steering shaft. is this neccessary? the instructions arent very clear on what to do and do not give any pictures. has anyone put a 3" body lift on without modding the steering shaft? if i have to is there any links that i could go to for some better instructions on what to do?

read his page... it has a procedure to extend it if you dont wnat to buy the part...

on my truck i HAD to buy the part as my truck is not like any otehr truck! its a 4x2 and is designed differntly than the 4x4 and i was unable to modify it because of this.....

My 3" kit came with a steering extension. I forgot to put it in the first time round and the steering was all messed up. Could barely turn the wheel. I would say it is needed. There is a way to adjust slightly w/o the extension. Under the dash, where the shaft connects to a u-joint, you can pull it out of the u-joint a bit to lengthen and also the same can be done where the shaft connects to the gear box. I would still recommend the extension tho.

It depends.

- If the steering shaft fits after the lift without modifying it, then no it is not necessary.

- If it doesn't fit then yes it is needed:
