Mixing ATF Fluid with Toyota

Hi All, I am about to do a drain/refill, and possibly a partial transmission flush(via cooler lines). I've been reading about how the toyota T IV fluid is better than typical dexron III(crisper shifts, etc), is that hold true for a 97 4runner v6 auto tranny as well? Would it be a bad idea to mix with aftermarket fluid. And if its ok to mix, which brand makes good ATF?
TIA!

do NOT add T-4 to a dexIII tranny.. i was told that so many times my head spun. just get a good dexIII fluid. i run valvoline maxlife dex/merc.. but you can get the dexIII in syn with mobile, amsoil or redline.
