Misfire HELP
Hey guys I am having a small problem thats become a huge headache. I have searched forums but cannot find what im looking for. It all began when I decided to service my 1999 Toyota Tacoma 3.4. The plan was to change all the fluids, plugs, and wires. I did all that.. I even cleaned the MAF and wiped the soot off of the intake. Also I decided to use a bottle of Lucas fuel treatment. After all this the truck ran fine for a day or two. I then noticed that it would misfire sometimes and had a rough idle. It wouldnt last long and would come and go. I ran the code and it said misfire on cylinder two. I then swapped the coil pack with another and it still was saying misfire on cylinder two. I then bought new plugs again and put my old plug wire back on that cylinder and it still is missing. Basically all I can think is that the injector went bad. Am I missing anything? some easy cheap fix? If it is the injector how hard is it to remove the intake to get to them? Thanks in advance to all your help.

Hey, I just had the same issues with my 1997 SR5, I discovered that on my #1 sparkplug wire (the metal part inside the rubber boot that comes in contact with the sparkplug) was completely snapped. This alone was enough to cause a misfire on #1 piston. I'm currently waiting for a new set of wires to arrive. You've already ruled out a possible bad coil and plug when you did the swap and kept getting the same code. Have you tried swapping the wires? I'm willing to bet that you too have a bad #2 spark plug wire. Good luck and let me know what you find!!!
P.S My truck was barely able to idle despite having problems with only one out of six pistons not firing.

Well I thought I had checked the plug wire but now I'm not sure I even am checking the right one. I was told the #2 plug is on the driver side closest to the radiator. But my bro who is a mechanic looked at it and seen a 6 stamped on the intake above that cylinder and he said it is the sixth cylinder so now I'm totally confused.

Here is what I found:
By this diagram, I was mistaken when I said I was having problems with #1 piston. I'm actually having issues with #2 piston not firing because of the broken wire. Hope this helps. FYI, This diagram is from the maintenance manual for our trucks.

Ok I had to take the intake off to get to the injectors so it was a pain but I took off the injector and had it cleaned and now all is well. Appreciate all your help. Do have a question tho. When I do a compression test is it compression at idle? I wasnt sure because I got two seperate readings one from idle and one at full throttle. Thanks.
