OK let me be the first to say it that I am cheap however when something needs to be done right to avoid failure in the future Ill do it right. If the cover that locks the front cv axle to the hub (cant remember the name of it) that is held on by screws was removed would this reduce drag and kinda be like a manual hub with a little more work needing to be done to go into 4wd?

no. you'd end up with an open hole in the ADD actuator and stuff would get in there. the way to do it would be to install manual hubs and permanently lock the ADD system.
